I Didn't Think I Could Do That Myself!

I am by NO means "crafty". I've always had a somewhat artistic side that was definitely more appreciated in my younger years :-) So, in my DIY quest, I am fully aware that I most likely won't be knitting entire wardrobes for babies or building a bedroom set out of Home Depot supplies. I do, however, live with the hope that I can create beautiful things that don't require much effort.

My DIY adventures are solely motivated by the stingy-ness and frugal-ness bones that reside in every Mom's body. My quest is to duplicate and recreate beautiful (and expensive) decorative gems for a fraction of the price. Since being a Mom, I have constantly found myself wandering the aisles of Home Goods or cruising Anthropologie, thinking to myself "I could totally make that......" There are so many things we see that are simple and cute (with ugly price tags) that we can cutely and simply recreate on a budget! Sometimes, it's not always creating the actual object, but recreating the concept and look of something.

For example, one of my favorite yet constant "window-shopping" stores is Pottery Barn. I love the simple, luxurious look of just about EVERYTHING in that store! The sad news: I'll need about two more promotions at work before I can purchase anything that's NOT on Clearance. As my grandmother would say, I'm not broke; just in between blessings :-) Here is a heather gray striped duvet cover I've had my eye on for quite some time:

You too can have this Queen sized duvet cover and two shams for a whopping $129.00!! I don't know about you, but that's a little extravagant for a "real" family who have children that might pee or color on it.

So, in my DIY Concept-Recreation Quest, I found this splitting image of the same set at Target for $29.99!!
It may not be 4,000 count Egyptian cotton, but I promise you won't cry when your 5 year old draws a Pokemon on it while you're in the shower.... believe me, it can happen!
